Digital nomads are self-employed individuals or employees who use digital technologies to work independently. Sarah Maresch has been working at baliosoft since November 2021 as both an employee and freelancer. She works about 5 hours a day — a part-time job that fits well with her lifestyle as a digital nomad. After just one month of getting familiar with her role in administration and organization, which took place locally in Liechtenstein, she set off in her van. This led her through Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Colombia to Panama, where she has lived since June 2024.
Her work at baliosoft is very varied — besides the classic administrative tasks like reporting, she takes care of our initial invoices, project budget control, contracts or contract renewals, and supports marketing when needed. The collaboration with the baliosoft team in Liechtenstein works excellently because Sarah starts very early in the morning to compensate for the six or seven-hour time difference. The only thing essential for her job: She needs a good internet connection. The rest runs smoothly because she can easily work anywhere thanks to the bs one product family. In a short interview, she tells how she has been completing her tasks since 2021.
How was Sarah Maresch’s onboarding experience at baliosoft?
At the beginning, there was certainly a lot to learn, as bs one is a very comprehensive tool that we internally use extensively. But once you know the structure and processes, it’s easy to get settled in.
Which bs one tools do you mainly use?
I’m always up to date thanks to the bs one portal. There, I get all the important information. New colleagues, new releases, changes in procedures — I see who’s absent and what’s happening right away. Everything important is gathered there, so I can see what’s going on in the company.
In the bs one workplace, I can access everything I need to do. All documents are available, and all tasks are assigned. It’s quite practical that several people can work on the same documents simultaneously, regardless of where they’re working. I also always see when someone else is online and have a good overview of where we stand with our various tasks.
Do you have an example of this kind of collaboration?
A typical workflow: my colleague Stefanie helps me with invoicing. She takes care of creating and checking timesheets. Only after the timesheet is ready can the invoice be prepared. I get this information from our shared status list. As soon as the timesheet is available, I start working on the invoice. We can assign tasks to each other, both from documents and in the bs one planner. Everyone can see where we stand in our respective tasks. Steffi is in Liechtenstein, I’m in Panama — but we work together as if we were in the same office.
Why did you choose this lifestyle?
The life is too short to limit it to just one place. There are still so many beautiful places in the world that I want to see. Five weeks of vacation per year is simply too little. But thanks to bs one, I can live and work wherever I want, and do it completely professionally, regardless of my location.
